@Joshisforreal It’s very difficult to understand the perspective of the security team until you have been in one. Then, your reaction is “ohhhh”. I started my career in cybersecurity, I know. At the same time, security teams are the most resistant to embracing a “serving-the-business” mindset.

Also funny: how often the conversation about “transitioning to SaaS” is oversimplified into a licensing/revenue model discussion. Moving to SaaS is exceptionally difficult and requires a radical transformation across dozens of business and technical dimensions.

Funny to see how *everybody* in the IT industry now wants to be in compliance & vulnerability assessment, irrespective of their focus area. In the beginning, it was just specialized security players. Then CMPs, then automation, then logging, then analytics, then app performance.

Problem awareness gives absolutely no guarantee of problem resolution. It can take years for people (in private life as in business) to fix something broken they see and openly acknowledge.

Assuming that a problem will be addressed once discovered can be a fatal assumption.

Identifying the essence of a business problem AND being right about the business problem that people want to solve requires a lot more listening and a lot less talking.

When it was announced, people didn’t want the iPhone. Even less they wanted the cutting edge tech that powered the iPhone. Ppl wanted a way to connect on the go (that didn’t suck).
Connect on the go was the business problem.
(that didn’t suck) was the competitive differentiation.
