Since my move from iOS to Android, I have been experimenting with mobile UIs for a while now.

One experiment was disabling completely notification badges on the app icons. After months without them, I came to the conclusion that they are useless.

In a world that is going through a tectonic cultural shift, surveys and polls are useless. They capture a mindset that is evolving across the board, generating completely different results depending on who you asking to and when.

I genuinely don’t think many people have realised that this is a very different IT world than the one we experienced 10y ago.

LOBs are getting fully autonomy
Apps are becoming self-contained
Users are demanding frictionless IT
Code is king

Automation is critical, but it’s not enough if embraced alone. It has to be an enabler for LoB autonomy (along with self-service and other means).

In a way or another, LoBs will reclaim its autonomy. Central IT can help them, or be circumvented. Decide.

The scale of cloud computing impacts IT management at multiple levels. Not just at the product level, through specific features and higher scalability limits, but also at the operational level.
