2/ From that highly theoretical vantage point, cost management would invariably end up being one of the lowest priorities in terms of budget allocation. Everybody wanted to talk about it but nobody wanted to spend money to do it better (or at all).

3/ In some cases, highly respectable (and very well known) orgs didn’t do any sort of TCO analysis, cost management or ROI calculation for any cloud project they had. It was either too hard, feared to become a reason to stall the project, or considered secondary.

5/ Things have changed a bit, but I still see the attitude of “it’s not my problem” or “it’s not worth it” everywhere.

That’s why Lydia’s words are more important than ever.

4/ Ten years later, having experienced the industry from the vendor side, I still see the same problems. It remains exceptionally hard for individuals (even inside a software vendor) to understand the enormous value of cost management.

Some people say that Instagram and Facebook are the biggest timesinks of our time. They never tried RegEx.

In the IT industry (and possibly elsewhere) history teaches NO lessons because the events of the past are read through subjective interpretations and their consequences are quickly forgotten.

Today’s non-lesson: $$$$$ dollar projects crumble under the weight of a scope creep.

I’m watching today’s @Apple event. The quality of the delivery is dramatically good in just 2y of virtual events. The voice, posture, look of every speaker is amazingly natural and yet amazingly professional. I can only imagine the amount of preparation put into each segment.
