.@Citymapper is one of my favourite startups and definitely on my Startups Worth Watching list: https://t.co/bIswTNMpXh

I’ve been raving about them since 2015 and, of course, I’m proud they are here in #London >

@simoncrosby And even if it’s not the case, there are other ways to tell apart humans and bots, no? Why do you have to be so invasive?

@simoncrosby Given the history of the company, I find very hard to believe that it’s the reason behind the initiative.

If I wanted to jumpstart my new ambition to built a “metaverse”, I’d use this excuse to create 3D avatars of every user. And then give them away for free, your welcome.

Another interesting angle Benedict touches is about building an audience while you are doing a different job. That can be exceptionally slow and hard also due to the fact that the valuable things you might have to say risk jeopardizing your employment.

I bet there are many invaluable insights (and great writers) hidden behind an ongoing business relationship where transparency simply is too dangerous for publishing.

How do people respond, psychologically, over the long term to a situation where they are enticed to pay for:

– 4 streaming subscriptions
– 25 app & games subscriptions
– 3 newsletter subscriptions
– 2 newspaper subscriptions
– etc.

On one thing I absolutely agree with Benedict. 16 years ago, I built a one-writer business supported by ads. While it was a highly profitable niche, it never reached revenue levels seen today with some of the most popular newsletters.
