It’s so amusing to see @Microsoft busy heavily advertising how many Linux instances are served on Azure while @AWScloud is busy heavily advertising how many Windows instances are served on AWS.

For years, I cross-posted my observations about the IT industry on both @Twitter and @LinkedIn.

Amusingly, a single thought that generates thousands or ten of thousands of views on LinkedIn is barely noticed on Twitter. And vice versa.

These networks are profoundly different.

In 20y of career, I’ve seen the IT industry becoming a gigantic echo chamber, where PR announcements are written by vendors and read by vendors. But enterprise orgs rarely care so there’s massive disconnect between the kool-aid you produce and drink and the actual market traction

I’m in Vegas next week for the #reInvent conference. My meetings about #automation, #cybersecurity, #AI, and cloud management this year will take place on a bus/taxi/helicopter in those 60min necessary to go from one session to another.

Thought leadership is *also* about saying things against the conventional wisdom or before everybody else. Which means taking risks. If your company doesn’t support taking risks (at every level of the org), you cannot be a thought leader, no matter how much you want it.
