6/ Enterprise DIY is not going to go anywhere anytime soon. So it’s better to embrace the approach and make it sustainable in a structured way.

5/ A sort of Kickstarter for enterprise DIY, to productize, increase exposure, and make those in-house solutions sustainable over the long term until the market catches up and offer a valid superior offering.

4/ One this we need is a 3rd party platform that harvests that hidden treasure of DIY enterprise solutions, transforms them into open source where possible, and/or sell them, at no cost for the originating org.

3/ Because of this, there’s a hidden treasure of DIY solutions developed by enterprises all around the world that might help 1000s of other end-user orgs but that are not sustainable long term because of the maintenance costs.

2/ Another, more important reason is that what the vendors offer is inadequate and there’s no viable option in the market. So a #CIO has no choice but to build internally what fits the needs of his/her customers: the LoB.

1/ There are multiple reasons why a large enterprise goes for DIY tools rather than buying a COTS solution from a vendor. One of them is lack of budget (and the underestimation of DIY hidden costs in DIY.

I don’t understand why @Twitter doesn’t simply allow to write unlimited text and then the app intelligently segment it in tweets of 280chars.

We had the technology to do this for eons, what’s point in forcing users in segmenting long thoughts in a manual way, like cavemen.

3/ A poor talent pool leads to lack of innovation, mislead strategy, screwed execution.

Unless, of course, you are hiring people as a commodity, cannon fodder. But who are the professionals that want to work for a company like that, anyway?

2/ Not only it’s a critical interaction where human personality and skills can only be assessed as a whole, and with a human touch. It’s also the business process that makes or breaks a company long term.
