@simonw already called the leaked release of LLaMA a “Stable Diffusion moment” for LLMs. I am less optimistic as I fear Meta could take legal action against anyone using the weights at any point, but I agree that Stability AI could trigger that event.

@simonw Hopefully, you’re right. I want to see what happens if somebody starts using these leaked weights to spit out even remotely offensive texts and the LLaMA name is clearly associated with them.

It’s when things become a reputational risk that you see how the company truly reacts.

Mark my words: if @StabilityAI (directly or via the Open Assistant project) releases an open source LLM that people can fine-tune and extend like we do today with Stable Diffusion, the #AIcommunity will make more progress with it in 1y than Amazon with Alexa in 8 years.

11/ And so we are talking about all the miracles that #AI will do for humanity, but the reality is this: I had to reboot @BoschGlobal brand new dishwasher (wifi-connected! #IoT!!) *15* times in less than a month.

12/ @BoschGlobal reaches out over Twitter DM and the very helpful interaction is (paraphrasing): “Oh it doesn’t turn on? Then you should call and arrange a service repair.”

Thank god Bosch has this incredible “Social Care” service. I would have been lost without it. 🫠

14/ He calls his boss and his boss tells him that there are no replacement parts for this brand-new dishwasher. The one that some PM has sent out with this incredible #IoT capability that doesn’t work at all.

13/ So, I arrange for an engineer to come and see this cruel dishwasher joke. He comes 2 days later and spend 5 minutes on the appliance. His response: “Oh if it doesn’t connect to Bluetooth and needs reboot we’ll have to order some replacement parts.” 🙄
