It works in this way:

1. build new tech A that reinvents the wheel but worse
2. market it as hard as you can to gain massive traction
3. force tech B, C, D, etc, no matter how unrelated, inside tech A to avoid they gain their own traction
4. restart when tech A not cool anymore
