.@mckinsey on the 4 most common times of failures in cloud adoption. I’ve seen all of them. The first 2 are the most common in my experience.

From @mckinsey special about #cloudcomputing: “Our experience with clients suggests that cloud-enabled operations can unlock more than $1 trillion in shareholder value for industrial companies—half from revenue growth and half from margin expansion.” https://t.co/KcyRGWB0sy

“58% of the respondents to the @McKinsey Cloud Survey indicated that since talent gaps make cloud projects more difficult, they are the top concern. As one respondent noted, “…Reskilling the IT department is often not enough.” https://t.co/KcyRGWB0sy https://t.co/CeE6YD0bqe

From @McKinsey special on #cloudcomputing:

“Companies average 23% over budget on cloud spending and estimate that 30% of their outlays are wasted (Exhibit 1). The problem will only grow, since companies expect to increase cloud spending by 47% next year.” https://t.co/KcyRGWB0sy https://t.co/4sqaWYywN7

Another recommendation from @mckinsey to be careful with. This has an immense cost for both vendors and end-user organizations and it’s rarely sustainable in the long term. In the early days of #cloudcomputing I’ve seen many bespoke solutions. All failed > https://t.co/QQ7FBygetF https://t.co/XiSRplh4ZR

Here @McKinsey recommends defining an end-state vision for the cloud project. Be very careful with how prescriptive you are. You risk the project is obsolete before it’s even completed.
