4/ Ten years later, having experienced the industry from the vendor side, I still see the same problems. It remains exceptionally hard for individuals (even inside a software vendor) to understand the enormous value of cost management.

“The first mindset is pretty common. Make tiny changes. Repeat. Incrementally move along the asymptote.
The other mindset is rare indeed. Do things that might not work. Fail often.
Real innovation comes from the science of “this might not work.” ”

To be accepted as a paradigm, a theory must seem better than its competitors, but it need not, and in fact never does, explain all the facts with which it can be confronted.

In the IT industry (and possibly elsewhere) history teaches NO lessons because the events of the past are read through subjective interpretations and their consequences are quickly forgotten.

I’m watching today’s @Apple event. The quality of the delivery is dramatically good in just 2y of virtual events. The voice, posture, look of every speaker is amazingly natural and yet amazingly professional. I can only imagine the amount of preparation put into each segment.

If/when scaling also implies addressing a broader audience, you can’t incrementally evolve the product or the team.
More radical actions are often necessary.

Just like to scale you can’t do more of the same things, you can’t repurpose the same product for a different audience (just by changing the pitch).
Rarely, if ever, the team that built a tool for admins is capable of thinking out of the box and evolve the tool for LoB users.
