1/ Highly recommended read, as usual. Here’s the behind the scene dynamic that nobody ever talks about: when I was doing research in Gartner myself (10y ago now) cost management (or even just cost monitoring) was one of the hottest topics, front & centre in the mind of any IT org https://t.co/sFW7pVrT0O

2/ From that highly theoretical vantage point, cost management would invariably end up being one of the lowest priorities in terms of budget allocation. Everybody wanted to talk about it but nobody wanted to spend money to do it better (or at all).

3/ In some cases, highly respectable (and very well known) orgs didn’t do any sort of TCO analysis, cost management or ROI calculation for any cloud project they had. It was either too hard, feared to become a reason to stall the project, or considered secondary.

5/ Things have changed a bit, but I still see the attitude of “it’s not my problem” or “it’s not worth it” everywhere.

That’s why Lydia’s words are more important than ever.
