As I said many times: there’s a time bomb ticking on Instagram.
2+ years ago I stopped using Facebook.
1y ago I stopped using WhatsApp.
I think I’m very close to cutting all ties >

Instagram may soon ask users to verify themselves with video selfies https://t.co/lvPn5qwj79

What is the book that changed your life? (not novels or religious texts)

Something big is happening in #London:

Another interesting angle Benedict touches is about building an audience while you are doing a different job. That can be exceptionally slow and hard also due to the fact that the valuable things you might have to say risk jeopardizing your employment.

I bet there are many invaluable insights (and great writers) hidden behind an ongoing business relationship where transparency simply is too dangerous for publishing.

How do people respond, psychologically, over the long term to a situation where they are enticed to pay for:

– 4 streaming subscriptions
– 25 app & games subscriptions
– 3 newsletter subscriptions
– 2 newspaper subscriptions
– etc.

On one thing I absolutely agree with Benedict. 16 years ago, I built a one-writer business supported by ads. While it was a highly profitable niche, it never reached revenue levels seen today with some of the most popular newsletters.

@benedictevans You did. But my impression is that your argument was more about newsletter market saturation because (among the other things) of too many writers.

Here I’m making the case for a cognitive overload in managing too many subscriptions (no matter what’s the thing you are paying for)

Very interesting thoughts on building a sustainable business as an individual writer publishing a newsletter (and in comparison with being an ad-supported blogger) and on the future of newsletters by @benedictevans.

@benedictevans I said very many times that I don’t believe paid newsletters are a viable business for most people. While some of the content in this post aligns with it, it doesn’t touch on a point that I think it’s very relevant: “subscription fatigue”.
