1/ And for the ones that, like me, are interested in understanding #web3 I offer some unsolicited advice after watching this space for some time now:

2/ This feels like history in the making more than any other emerging tech I’ve seen before (and I’ve seen many), but you won’t be able to fully understand the what, why and when by reading press articles (no matter how many).

3/ Listening to the conversations between builders and critics, and within those sides is key to having the perspective of somebody that “was there when it happened”.

Twitter is the place where you can listen and learn about #web3 more than any other.

1/ For now, I keep learning about #web3 and listening to pros and cons positions (amplifying both) without picking a side. It’s something I do for at least 1 year every time I start focusing on an emerging tech.

2/ For example, I did it when I shifted my interest from cybersecurity to virtualization, early in my career.

But I’ll say this:

The way web companies have inevitably abused their roles as centralisers has bothered me for a very long time.

3/ Way before #web3 topics were daily conversation, I abandoned Facebook. Shortly after, I invested a great deal of time to replicate my 10+ years Twitter activity on my personal website (and it’s mirrored daily since then).

4/ Now I’m seriously considering doing something similar for Instagram.

I’m not sure how to handle my LinkedIn network, by far the most valuable asset, but it’s a problem I have in mind.

5/ I’m not saying that current #web3 tech is the solution to these problems, and many perspectives I’ve shared so far suggest otherwise. I’m saying that the abusive behaviour of current web companies has created the conditions for people to even consider web3 tech. Me included.

BTW, it turns out that what we are doing all day on Twitter are food calls. https://t.co/t00Z3mARPb

Remember when blogs were THE thing? We had all those commenting trolls and eventually many bloggers & orgs decided to shut down the comments altogether. After all that, we are now writing long form blog posts on Twitter, where trolls can exponentially troll individual sentences.
