To all IT vendors: hiring an influential person (independent or employed elsewhere) and giving that person your press releases or product marketing material to regurgitate does NOT automatically amplify your voice. If you believe so, you don’t understand how influence works.

At this point, and after I’ve been treated, I don’t even care to try. To me, @eBay simply doesn’t exist.

It’s not a big loss given that @eBay had the worst customer service in the history on web companies and their board doesn’t seem to care. But the point is that you can become an outcast overnight, excluded from markets or social groups without appeal.

People don’t realize how real this scenario is until it happens to them. Years ago, I was banned from @eBay for reasons that no customer rep has ever explained to me, no matter how many times I asked. In the short term, I think he’s right. In the long term, I’m very confident it will be the other way around.

Regardless: as companies’ goal is to maximize attention, imagine an endless stream of notifications at the corner of our eye.
