It’s not impossible to do, especially thanks to the incredible freedom that @EMostaque & @StabilityAI have enabled, but it requires a plan and an effort that simply doesn’t exist today. Or I haven’t seen it.

@Merzmensch @julio_bree It couldn’t be farther from the truth. There are hundreds of thousands, millions, at the edges, like you. But they don’t know you exist. And it takes an enormous resolve and self-confidence (that very few possess) to keep creating art at the edges without that validation.

@Merzmensch @julio_bree It’s not just art. These algorithms are killing the huge diversity that makes humanity exceptional to converge towards an ocean of undifferentiated mediocre content that pleases the large majority of the audience for 3s. If you are in the middle of the bell curve, great.

And not just if you are the “consumer” of the niche content (art or otherwise). The creator of niche content, too, is suppressed:

@Merzmensch @julio_bree As a creator, not only are these algos punishing you financially (no connection to a potential audience, no viable revenue stream), but they are also punishing you socially and emotionally. They make you feel nobody cares about your voice. So, eventually, you might well shut up.

@Merzmensch @julio_bree You are not shadowbanned. It’s just that the Twitter algorithm is not optimized for art. The same is happening everywhere: I use Instagram exclusively to follow artists, art galleries, and museums, and I can barely see their content anymore. My feed is now full of cat videos.
